Can I fly my drone at the West Edmonton Mall?

Can I fly my drone at the West Edmonton Mall?
A problem I have run into with mandatory Remote ID in Canada is spillover from the USA. I live in Ottawa, and my Avata works fine here, but if I come within 30 or 40 kilometers of the border, I suddenly get a "Remote ID" error, and my drone won't even spin up, much less take off. I have relatives in the Belleville area and in a small town a bit further north called Seelys Bay, and when I took my new drone on visits and tried to show it off, I got nowhere. Not being familiar with that error terminology, I had no idea what I'd done wrong and spent an hour or more each time trying to get things going. Sometime later I used up a lot of gas to go out on the road (Hwy 416 south) and stop from time to time to see if I got the new "error". At a truck weigh station just north of Kemptville everything worked fine, but a couple of exits further south the error cropped up again. I can only guess that the DJI GPS system is either detecting some sort of broadcast from the States that is interfering, or the Goggles' GPS has some kind of "just in case" overcompensation. I've since gone online and read of a couple of ways to either comply or get around it, so we'll see if those work next time I go o visit relatives.
Will this work with air 2S
Sadly don't think so. Follow-up video soon!
Hey that was a nice review of decoding. Thanks.
Mate I run a legal UAV business, This is major problem around the world.I could send you many you-tuber that are taking these risk everyday but I avoid trying to educate people due the back-lash that come with it. I wish you the best need guys like you making people aware
Just call us Drone Quixote.
There's an airport just to the left of the drone. It is also a uncontrolled airport meaning there is no tower. Pilots have to talk to each other to organise the pattern. Having a drone floating around the pattern over the top of a highway is.... ya know... not smart.
Yeah good old chilliwack? What’s the fucking point in the video? Nobody knows what a chilliwack is. What a stupid American name for a place. Waste of my fkin time
pointless out of context short? Don't recommend this channel
The short links to the full video!
No one cares, your short sucked.. No ones clicking the link @@CoastalDrone
Agreed! My first time with this channel and it’s just disappointed and dissatisfaction.
I tilted my head to the right and there was just a wall there. No drones in my house. FAKE NEWS
We will send the chiropractor tomorrow.

Say you get approved for flight at a max altitude of 20 meters over downtown Vancouver. If you're flying over a building, are you allowed to be 20 meters above that building or only 20m agl? Or can you be 30 meters above buildings?
According to NAV Canada: Approval height in controlled airspace starts at the surface so it would be 20M AGL.
Interesting! Ok.. So the current automatic height limit says 121.92 m for over downtown Vancouver. So say you wanted to fly to the Shangri-La tower (that is 200 meters tall) and then over it and back down. You would need an SFOC even though CARS 901.25 (1)(b) says you can fly 100 feet (30 m) above any building or structure, if the aircraft is being operated at a distance of less than 200 feet (61 m), measured horizontally, from the building or structure?
@@JonnyRay82 SFOC not applicable as you're in Controlled Airspace. You'd need to discuss and get approval from NAV Canada for the higher operating altitude. 901.25 is only applicable to uncontrolled airspace.
That makes sense. Thank you.
Chilliwack airport is right near there😮😮
thanks for the info the clip is so out of context i had no idea why it would be wrong
We try to link the original videos in the shorts let us know if that’s not working!
I've become a big fan of Davinci Resolve! I used Sony Vegas for years because I had a license. I refuse to pay monthly for life. There are so many tutorials on how to do something in Davinci that you can learn new techniques all the time. I used the free version for a while and it was fine, but the paid version (which I now have) is much faster in every aspect!
Thanks for sharing!
I don't think you covered photographing or videoing other people's property. I've had lots of criticism when I say I captured a special property and was given permission. People keep telling me you don't need permission. To me it's pretty straight forward. If I'm capturing someone's property as the focal of the video then I need to get permission.
I love these conversations, this has been a topic I've had on the top of my brain since I've started to work with drones. I can't wait to take my Flight Review, just wish our silly Ontario weather would cooperate.
i hope you have a 2024 version of this, thanks
we will get one up shortly!
So, technically yes?
Yep!
Excellent session. Keep them coming!
I’d join in with a class action for the Manti3, it’s super annoying that I have to re-register my drone and can’t fly over people anymore!
Thanks for the info. Super helpful for a beginner! Gave me the confidence to start!
Let us know how it goes!
I love how real and raw you guys are hosting these. Ive used premiere for over 2 years now. Davinci has a way better coloring workflow overall, but i have been stuck in the premiere world haha. Thanks for the push man.
Thanks! More to come, if you find something worth sharing let us know!
Would you be willing to do a segment on DaVinci resolve's color processing nodes, specifically in relation to what color settings to use on different drones/drone cameras? For example, the D-CineLike setting on the mini 3 pro... what does that mean and how do you process that through DaVinci resolve?
eventually! I wanted to break down the differences between 8-bit and 10-bit or higher options, and when Standard, HLG, and D-Log would make sense next @@christianrademakerstudios
That could be key to helping people make decisions on what to shoot, if they pay attention to those. Specifically on editing, I've found that a smaller file doesn't always mean faster editing, and a bigger file doesn't always give you better results... you need the file to have the correct ingredients, and knowing when to pick which.
ive been waiting to use my smart controller and mavic 2 pro for a couple years now for mapping. does it reaLLY WORK? watching full video now
Unfortunately not with Pilot PE anymore. Pilot 2 possibly.

If you guys make a class action for the Manti3, I'll join! Haha.. I had one deploy already. The cat uses the parachute as a toy now.
Great info. I also contacted FlyFyre last week and they told me they have submitted documents to TC and are waiting for approval. This is a really annoying situation. I really think it would be safe in a drop.
SanDisk cards come with free recovery software too.
this is really useful stuff . thanks for helping me figure it all out
Thanks for the feedback! We're going to dive into specific topics in this series throughout the year, so if there's something you'd like to see at some point, don't forget to ask!
That was well explained. I appreciated the good examples, and newbie comments :) I'm looking forward to the videography lesson
This all makes sense, but in a new, modern depth that I haven't thought of. Great topic and articulation Ian!
Anothe "pixel farting" -academics :)
Awesome guys, great topic and some great tips, Thanks
Agreed, should be moved. :-)
Love it... short & sweet & to the point thx Kate.
This was a great listen, thank you. I strongly agree that pilots of micro drones should have to complete a site survey as well. I don't know your feelings on the Prone Pilot Canada app, but I use it every time I fly to make a site survey. I find the app does a really great job on showing the airspaces and aerodromes. It shows all emergency contact numbers and includes customizable checklists and procedures. It also grabs the current NOTAMs and displays the boundaries right on the map. I find this very helpful.
We've had no issues with pilots relying on using apps as drone planning tools and their sole source of checklists as long as they meet CARS 901.23 requirements. Unfortunately at this time, NAV Drone is the only "official" app to our knowledge that allows for controlled airspace flight authorization requests, but there are some good alternatives out there for at least flight planning and checklists.
@@CoastalDrone Yeah, I'm having to use Drone Pilot for my planning and then NAV Drone for my authorization. Hopefully one day NAV Drone with be a complete solution.

This is an incredible interview! to do the impossible:)
That was excellent! Thanks!
Is it possible to hyperlink the videos done by coastal Drone(on you tube) to the course material?(I know some are) just have watched the above video and I don't remember 903 etc. during the course? I noted RPAS crews needed 8 hours of practice/work on SFOC - It would be good to have guidelines for operation of RPAS and skill sets required for Flight Reviews, etc. thank you.
Totally awesome to "take us along" with some of the jobs!!! and exercises for flying our drones! Looking forward to 2024!
Why do all people look so serious or surprised? There is no middle ground at all, which makes me nervous as well.
Looks like they are reading a script from a screen beside the camera. They are doing a much better job than I did when I tried to read from a script on camera. Not easy. haha
Cool 😊
what software do you use to process the data?

FLYDAY = oriental Airforce Day....an older chap told me

It’s over
Do you have more details on how a foreign op can get the CARs SFOC for an event? I already have my TC cert & in person exam and have been approved for SFOCs in the past but I have an event I need to capture in Edmonton next month which is less than 30 business days (which has been a huge hinderance in the past!) Thanks!
Thank you.
Hi coastal, in Edmonton do I need a permit and liabilty insurance in order to fly in any park? ..insurance can be $500-$1000 per year...Gov't of canada and transport canada says it is not required! but city of edmonton says you have to show proof of liabilty insurance at $2 million in order to receive the permit or EVEN fly the DJI Mini 2 SE in any park...is this correct?..any insight?..I just want to keep the drone lower and mostly on my face for cool vlogging shots in follow me mode 🤔any way around this?....also on the NRC map there is a yellow circle near me that says "Micro drone operations are permitted" so if i film in this yellow circle do i STILL need a city permit and proof of liabilty?..or is the yellow circle already saying I am permitted and therfore do not require liabilty insurance? ....thanks so much for any feedback!
I'd love to see another video on this process in Vancouver, but with microdrones. It would be a great resource for illustrating the difference in regulatory process between microdrone operations and licensed drone operations.
SO many fiddlefaddle rules.
This videos needs to be updated. Also it’s a bit of a farce that a foreign pilot has to jump through so many hoops. No issues with USA, U.K. or EU. Why is Canada making things more complicated and unnecessary.
its really f*cking complicated for the foreign pilots. im spending almost 3 days completing these things and im not even done yet
How did you get dronedeploy on ur smart controller?
